PBS Volunteer News Edition 5 2012

They say that the reward in volunteering is doing the work itself, and that’s true. Other rewards include learning new skills, community engagement, meeting new people, doing something meaningful & useful and more. At PBS the occasional and unexpected reward is when famous people drop by and you get to capture the moment. Here’s a picture of music and interviews coordinator Chelsea Wilson, volunteer Campbell McNolty and volunteer music assistant Julien H on his second day [lady is unknown]. The guy on Vince Peach’s scooter is Mayer Hawthorne.

It’s a fun event to be involved in, and there’s an excellent live soundtrack!   If you’d like to be involved email hr[at]pbsfm[dot]org[dot]au

Write For Easey Magazine
Easey is our biannual members magazine and our Editor Richie 1250 is seeking volunteer writers. From Richie 1250: Wanna write an article for Easey? have an idea? Wanna write one but don't have an idea but maybe would if someone gave you an idea? Ideally it'd be something music related or related to the music community. Things that have some current relevance are particularly good, an act that's about to tour, an old thing that's recently been re-issued, etc... Seeking either 600, 1200, or 1800 words. The deadline is about 3 weeks time, to be ready by early May. Ideas, suggestions, submissions, etc should be sent to Richie 1250 stonelovepbs[at]gmail[dot]com

Library Cataloguing – Weekdays Monday to Friday between 10am-6pm * always loads of opportunities now*
PBS has an expansive CD collection which is currently being catalogued. We’ve had heaps of help to get to where we are, but we are still in need of more assistance. To get the most out of it, you need basic computer skills. The role is a data entry one, so attention to detail is important. If you’re interested in helping out, email mara[at]pbsfm[dot]org[dot]au to organise training and secure your shift.

Music Department Librarian – a regular volunteering opportunity
As the library becomes fully catalogued item by item, we need a responsible music department librarian  who can help with borrowing, returns, managing reservations, assisting announcers with library requests, adding new titles to the library and compiling a list of new releases for the weekly bulletin. To be suitable we’re looking for someone with good computer skills, good communication skills and an eye for detail who can dedicate a minimum of one day or two half days to the library. If you think this is the role for you email mara[at]pbsfm[dot]org[dot]au to organise training and secure your shift.

FINAL THOUGHT

Margaret Mead

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has..... Margaret Mead, American Cultural Anthropologist, 1901-1978.

PBS FINE PRINT POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

It is important for all announcers, volunteers and staff to be familiar with this. It is available online (to save the trees) from here and http://pbs.org.au/policy. The Policies and Procedures Handbook ensures that PBS remains in safe compliance with the Codes of Practice and other relevant legislation. It also positions PBS staff, Announcers and volunteers to operate with a shared, clear understanding of how things work at PBS. Please read this carefully.
