ACID COUNTRY'S DAVID HEARD PICKS UP THE
OUTSTANDING VOLUNTEER CONTRIBUTION FROM THE CBAA. PICTURE TAKEN BY THE
WONDERFUL KRIS HITHGODA.
This Thursday December 5 is International Volunteer Day
(IVD). IVD was established by the UN in 1985, and the whole point of it
is to acknowledge the fantastic contributions volunteers make to
organisations around the globe. We all know that PBS is largely a
volunteer organisation, so we say salute you for your brilliant
efforts! Speaking of volunteers…
Congratulations David Heard
David Heard was recognised with the Most Outstanding Volunteer Contribution Award from the CBAA,
at the annual conference held in Sydney, November 2013. Having
volunteered at PBS for over 30 years he’s held a variety of volunteer
roles, but it’s his strong support of the local scene, hosting on
average 80-100 guests annually playing live sets and conducting
interviews from musicians from the local roots scene and showcasing
touring artists. It's a little known fact that David starting
volunteering for PBS before PBS formally commenced! He and Rod McCubbin
used to make live recordings of performances at The "One C One” folk
club with the intention of airing them once PBS started
broadcasting. There’s not many more who are as dedicated to bringing
listeners the music as David Heard, and that is why he deserves the CBAA Most Outstanding Volunteer Contribution Award! If you've never encountered the dulcet tones of David Heard and you want to know more, tune into Acid Country on Thursdays 3pm-5pm.
PBS Board – some departures and new faces
Did you know that there's volunteers contributing at all levels at PBS?
Even the Board are volunteers. Following the PBS AGM held November 19,
new faces have emerged as others have stepped aside. Chair John Carver and Ross Giles have
stood down. It’s often hidden work with little fanfare, but it’s a
fairly time consuming roll with many responsibilities – so a big thanks
to John and Ross for their dedication and stewardship of the station.
New to the Board are Jess Fairfax (Big Mob and MAV) and Justin Naylor. They join Mike Sewell (Treasurer) – who was elected as the new Chair; Simon Minahan (Secretary); Garry Havrillay (PPG Chair); Jurgen Schaub (IT guru) and Kirsty Rivers (APRA and many years in the music biz).
On Air Changes
December 8 will be Glen Morrow’s final Dog’s Breakfast
program as he takes a break to spend more time with his family and to
welcome a new addition to the Morrow household. We'd like to wish Glen
and his wife all the very best for their impending delivery and to thank
Glen for making such wonderful radio between 6 and 8 on Sunday
mornings. Monica Hanns broadcast her last Against The Tide on Monday November 18, paving the way for Press Gang's show Zen Arcade which moved from Saturday night. Mr Smith is PBS' newest addition to the PBS family, with his show Ghetto Disco. And Erica is back with her show Mixing Up The Medicine on Tuesdays from 5-7.

Fine Print Policies and Procedures
It is important for all volunteers and
staff to be familiar with this. See the policies and procedures here and
http://pbs.org.au/policy. The Policies and Procedures Handbook ensures
that PBS remains in safe compliance with the Codes of Practice and other
relevant legislation. It also positions PBS volunteers, announcers and
staff to operate with a shared, clear understanding of how things work
at PBS. Please read it carefully. And if you’re inspired, why not
consider becoming a PBS shareholder?
