PBS Volunteer News 6th July 2011

Well it’s old news now... the Megahertz may have lost the Community Cup to those pesky Rockdogs, but the day was THE winner. Thanks to all the players, team management, cheerleaders, volunteers, commentators donors, and all our listeners for coming along to this great event. The event raised around $200,000 for Reclink, a very worthy cause.  If you missed it, check out Mess and Noise. The community spirit that radiates from community cup is another great example of how rewarding volunteering can be.

DEBT COLLECTING FOR A GOOD CAUSE **Filled**
PBS are seeking a debt collection volunteer to assist the Accounts person. Flexible availability, but 4 hours per week/8 hours per fortnight would be good. Excellent interpersonal skills are essential. Good phone manner very desirable. Some background in collections is good, also any accounts/bookkeeping [MYOB] background would be a nice bonus. Got the mad skillz to help?

ROCK-A-BYE-BABY
Remember your first gig? There’ll be a whole generation who can say Rock-A-Bye- Baby was theirs! That’s because Rock-A-Bye-Baby is a gig with great musicians, aimed for children and their parents, held in Fitzroy. Want to help out at the next one featuring Sarah Carroll? Helping at events is mostly just helping parents, talking to people in the community, pusher traffic management, door and postering.

The music and interviews department requires regular, committed every day of the week. The assistant role includes assisting to place interviews on all shows on PBS, processing new music, assisting to manage the PBS library, liaising with PBS announcers about content for their programs and administering feature albums.

Be the face of PBS on Tuesdays from 10am-2pm on reception by referring queries to the right people.  Chit chat with PBS people, help out and so much more. This shift falls during Blair Stafford’s Inside Vibe, Gabby Urban’s Trans Europa Express and Jan Dale’s Southern Style.

BECOME A PBS ANNOUNCER
Did you know that PBS announcers are volunteers? Did you know there’s around 79 programs on the PBS program guide? Always dreamed of being an announcer? The first step to becoming an announcer is doing the PBS announcer course.

The next announcer course starts Monday 1st of August and runs for five consecutive Monday nights in August. Small classes, reasonable prices, see Course Calendar for more info. Email hr[at] pbsfm.org.au to obtain an application form, and lock yourself in for this opportunity.
