PBS Volunteer News Edition 25 - Wrap Up

2012: An eye popping year!

Mara here from PBS HQ! Well PBS, the Melbourne community music radio station never ceases to amaze me.

24 hours x 7 days x 52 weeks per year = how long PBS broadcast in 2012. According to my quick calculation that’s 8736 hours broadcast. PBS is not only powered by electricity. It’s powered by people and those people are volunteers. It’s awesome that there’s a community out there who support volunteer efforts – our listeners-members, donors, sponsors, musicians, artists and more. Let’s take a moment to acknowledge the awesome splendour of volunteer contributions in 2012.

PBS Website
The PBS website is created and maintained by two brilliant volunteers Garry Havrillay, Jurgen Schaub. If you’ve seen the PBS website www.pbsfm.org.au you can see this is a massive job. I say! What a terrific job they’ve done.

Production Volunteers
So I get a lot of enquiries about people wishing to volunteer in the PBS Production Department [they handle the sound related enquiries, working with bands, and at outside broadcasts, archiving live sessions, setting up recording programs for announcers and more. Unfortunately, we can’t accommodate all the requests, but we can accommodate some. Thanks to Joe F, Eugene H, Barbarella S, Michelle B, Luwanna R, Amy C and Luis for your help
Mr Doo Wop with the work experience kids

Work Experience
I love the work experience kids that come into PBS. There’s no coffee making, but every work experience person has helped out with the day to day running of the station and gained an insight into what goes on behind the scenes  at a community radio station. Thanks to Sammy G, Josh B, Alex K, Ediz S, Luke Z, Damien T, Lucy D, Louka EP, Tim R and Madeleine M for all your help. Maybe we’ll see you in the future?!

Board
If you check out the PBS policies and procedures, you might discover that PBS has a Board. They’re responsible for a number of things. Volunteers contribute at all different levels, from sealing envelopes to making important leadership decisions. The Board of course determine strategic direction, policy development, financial sustainability, regulatory and legal compliance of PBS. They also appoint the General Manager. Thanks to Garry Havrillay, John Carver, Mike Sewell, Ross Giles, Simon Minahan, Jurgen Schuab and Clare Stuchbery. Good Governance! There’s so many people to thank at PBS. Doesn’t it make your head spin?
