PBS Volunteer News 12 - 2014

A mighty big congrats to Vince Peach who was awarded PBS’ highest honour – The Mick Geyer Award - for his contribution to broadcast and music in Melbourne and beyond. You may know Vince as the lovable Liverpudlian who hosts Soul Time Wednesday from 3-5. Vince has been with the station since the early 80’s spinning soul tunes – before it was fashionable in these parts! The guy’s been doing it so long, he’s helped develop a scene and become an institution.

Thanks for helping out at PBS. Although the year’s almost done, we’ve still got opportunities coming up before the end of the year. And if you’re too busy for those, why not consider volunteering in 2015?

What are you doing New Year's Eve?

Maybe this could be the perfect solution to your NYE quandary. Seeking 4 trustworthy, fun loving volunteers who’d be happy to share their NYE with PBS to chat to people & help out sell merch. Bring a friend along, volunteer for a couple of hours and dance the rest of the night away! Apply to mara@pbsfm.org.au

Cleaning Working Bee

Yup! Sounds boring but has the potential to be highly rewarding. For the first time in seven years PBS would like to hold a working bee. This will involve cleaning (dusting, sugar soaping walls, cleaning the top of the lockers, top of shelves and more), and also handyperson roles (sandpapering, painting). Would you like to help out with this working bee? If you’re skilled in these areas, that’s great, but if not that doesn’t really matter. As long as you’ve got an eye for detail and prepared to carry out the role to the best of your ability – that’d be really helpful!  It will probably be held on Saturday January 10 from 11am-4pm

Fine Print Policies and Procedures

It is important for all volunteers and staff to be familiar with this. See the policies and procedures here and http://pbs.org.au/policy. The Policies and Procedures Handbook ensures that PBS remains in safe compliance with the Codes of Practice and other relevant legislation. It also positions PBS volunteers, announcers and staff to operate with a shared, clear understanding of how things work at PBS. Please read it carefully. And if you’re inspired, why not consider becoming a PBS shareholder?
